How to Maximize Ride Quality on 2016 Jayco Alante 26Y With 2015 Ford F-53 Chassis
Question:
I would really appreciate your input on the issues of road-handling capabilities for my 2016 Jayco Alante 26Y 2015 Ford F53 16,000 - 18,000 GVWR. First, I am a complete new comer to the motor home world, and, consequently, have zero basis for my concerns about my perceived deficiencies regarding the road handling as set-up by the factory. As you probably know better than I, my coach comes from the factory with the JRise suspension system Bilstein Shock absorbers, Computer-balanced driveshaft, jounce bumpers and Front and rear sway bars. My only driving experience has been driving the unit from the dealer in Michigan back to Angel Fire, NM. The trip was a hair-raising experience, which resulted in my putting the unit in storage until I could learn/determine what actions to take in order to make the unit safe for highway driving. A member on the iRV2 forum advised me to get a front-end alignment before doing anything else-which I have had done. While, another member advised that I get a steering stabilizer. I have done both of these upgrades. However, a shop in Albuquerque that was recommended to me installed a SteerSafe unit, while, based on their catalog of products I expected them to install a Roadmaster. The handling has improved dramatically from the initial cross-country driving experience. However, due to my lack of experience and knowledge on what should be the optimum handling benchmark, I wish to determine the following: 1. Should I consider removing the SteerSafe and installing a different/stronger steering mechanism on the front? 2. Should I consider adding front and rear Trac Bars? 3. Should I consider adding something like the Sumo Springs? Thank you in advance for your response.

Steering stabilizers are going to assist you in maintaining control and drive straight ahead; it sounds like the SteerSafe you have installed has done just that. We do not carry their products so I wouldn't be able to intelligently comment on their effectiveness, but you did mention that since it's been installed the handling of your 2016 Jayco Alante has improved dramatically and if that is indeed the case I would stick with it.
To optimize the rest of your setup, a rear anti-sway bar - sometimes known as trac bars - would be a good idea. I recommend the Roadmaster # RM-1139-146, which is a fit for your '16 Alante. It will help keep your motorhome in line by reducing the amount of side to side movement you encounter. The steering stabilizer will help keep your wheels pointing straight, and the anti-sway bar will improve that further by balancing weight transfer and stopping the roll caused when you, for example, pass a semi truck on the highway.
I also recommend using the SumoSprings that you referenced; the best fit for you would be the SumoSprings Maxim # SSR-184-40-1. These are going to help keep you level, and a level ride means more traction, better braking, and a more responsive vehicle because your front and rear suspension will be working together instead of being uneven due to a heavy load weighing down the rear and causing the front to rise.
I've added a video review of the SumoSprings for you to take a look at as well.
