Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Function on 7-Way Trailer Connection
Question:
when I plug trailer into truck 2017 Dodge ram 5500 trailer brakes do not apply. How do I properly wire the plug into the truck. I have the 7 pole that is self explanatory but there are extra heavier gauge wires that I do not know what to do with. Black, green yellow and brown heavier gauge I think this is why the brakes are not applying

Expert Reply:
The brake controller output wire on your 7-way will be at the 5 o'clock pin position when you are looking at the connection. The heavier gauge wire will not be an issue, but you will want to put a circuit tester like # PTW2993 on that pin when you hit the manual override on your brake controller to test for function. The light should get brighter as you increase the braking power using that manual slider.
