Options for Running the Power Wire for the Tow Ready Custom Fit Wiring # 118520 on a 2011 Mazda CX9
Question:
Im having a problem determining how to connect to the 12 volts of power for the 2011 Mazda CX9 wire harness for towing. I cant find a way to get it to the battery from inside the vehicle. I was hoping that there was a way to tap into the existing wiring inside, possibly at the fuse box. I did notice that there is an auxillary outlet cigarette lighter recepticle in the back cargo area. Do you know if that would supply the needed voltage/ampage?

The best way to run the power wire for this Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118520, on your 2011 Mazda CX9 would be to run the wire through either a grommet in the trunk area to the exterior of your vehicle and then along a frame rail avoiding moving and hot parts to prevent cutting or melting the wire. Usually if you look under the carpet that is in the trunk area you will see small black, circular rubber grommets that you can use as access points to the exterior of your CX9.
Or run it to the front of the interior of your CX-9 and either run it through an existing hole in the firewall or drill a hole for the wire. Once again you will want to avoid any pinch points or areas that might melt the wires.
While you could run the wire to the cigarette lighter circuit, you run the risk of being with out trailer lights if for some reason the fuse on this circuit were to blow while you were towing a trailer.
I attached installation instructions for both the # 118520.
