Recommended Weight Distribution Shank for 1999 Ram 2500

Question:

I read that the shanks vary in length. How do I know if I have the best length for my set up. I have a 1999 Ram 2500, 8foot bed. OEM ride ht. and bumper and receiver. What provides the best clearances from the truck.

The Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 10K GTW, 1K TW # C17062 can use different weight distribution shanks as you mentioned where length is needed. For your 1999 Ram 2500, you won't have any issues with the shank that comes with this particular system. The extended length shanks are for vehicle where there isn't enough clearance from the bumper or there is a different rise or drop needed based on modifications to factory height. The shank that comes with this system will work perfectly for your application and you can determine proper rise or drop based on measuring the top inside edge of your receiver to the ground and then from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler. I've attached an article to assist that is about ball mounts, but the rise and drop needed will be measured the exact same way for a WD system.
