Trailer Wiring Harness for 2002 Lexus IS 300
Question:
I am confused on which wiring harness to buy for my 2002 Lexus IS300 C59236 or 56201. Which do you recommend? Which is easier to install? From where do you power the 56201 kit?

According to our friends at Curt Manufacturing, part # C59236 is the correct wiring harness for your Lexus. The # 56201 is designed to be used with a multiplex wiring system like those found on some newer vehicles, and would not work correctly with your Lexus.
The harness would install as follows. The included circuit tester is used to test the circuits in the wiring harnesses that feed the rear tail light assemblies. As each lighting function is activated, use the tester to test each wire looking for the wire that is showing current. The green wire taps into the right turn circuit, the yellow wire to the left turn, the brown wire to the running lamp circuit, the white wire is grounded to the vehicle, and the red wire will tap into one of the brake light circuits if your Lexus uses a 3-wire system (vehicle has amber turn signals) or is grounded to the vehicle if the vehicle has a 2-wire system (both brake lamps and turn signals use the same bulb in the tail light assembly). The black wire would be extended using the length of wire included in the kit and ran to the positive battery terminal.
I have provided a link to the install instructions for a similar product. Although they are for a different product, they fully outline the steps needed for a successful installation.
