The Curt Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # C13010 will fit your 2010 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vehicle. A hitch ball is only needed if you will be towing a trailer. The hitch ball is located on a ball mount that fits into the trailer hitch. It is where the trailer coupler would connect to the trailer hitch. A hitch ball is not needed if you will only be using the hitch for a bike rack.

Since you will be using the Curt hitch for non-trailer loads like a hitch bike rack, you will need to use a stabilizing strap like the Curt Stabilizing Strap, part # 18050 to secure the bike rack to the hitch. One end of the strap will attach to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicles trunk lip or window. It gives added support and stability to the bike rack and keeps the movement of the bike rack to a minimum, which puts less stress on the hitch. It is required by the manufacturer (Curt) to give extra support to the hitch accessory. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

I am including a link to a FAQ page on hitch bike racks.
