Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2013 Jayco X17Z

Question:

I just purchased a used 2013 Jayco x17z which weighs about 3100 pounds. It also had a weight distribution hitch rated for 14,000 pounds and 1,400 pound tongue weight, and a reece friction anti-sway bar. Is there any problem using this setup, or will the high rating of the weight distribution system be a problem? If so, can you recommend an appropriate system for weight distribution and anti-sway? I am towing with a 2008 toyota 4runner.

If you use a weight distribution that's rated too high you'll have a really rough ride quality that you won't enjoy. Especially with how high your system is rated and the lower relative weight of the trailer.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Your loaded tongue weight is going to be between 310 lbs and 500 lbs most likely so for a system rated for that with sway control the part # RP66082 would be perfect as it has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and features only sway control that works to prevent sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
