Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2016 Ram 3500

Question:

I am parching a Jayco 377RLBH 5th wheel. The GVWR is 16750, the CCC is 2895, and the unloaded hitch weight is 2820 lbs, or if I us the 20 rule 3350 lbs. Question: Is the 18k hitch sufficient or should I move to the 24K?

Expert Reply:

If you add both the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and the cargo carrying capacity (CCC) of your Jayco 377RLBH then you are somewhere in the ballpark of 20,000 lbs. Therefore, I recommend choosing a 5th wheel hitch with a higher capacity than 18,000 lbs such as the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider part # DM8550035 which is rated for 20,000 lbs. In order to install this hitch in the bed of your 2016 Ram 3500 you will want to use the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Ram OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package part # DM6099.

The Hijacker Autoslide has an automatic sliding feature that provides turning clearance required for your short-bed truck and a single-piece wraparound jaw that provides a secure 360 degree connection.

I have attached a review and installation video of this hitch installed on a similar 2017 Ram 3500 for you as well.
