Locating Correct Replacement Grease Seal for Trailer Hub
Question:
My hub is 2.491. The seals that came with my brake kit are 2.506 and will not press in the hub...just messed up two seals trying. How much larger does the seal OD need to be than the hub?

There are a few methods for determining the correct size grease seal for your trailer.
First, if you still have the old/existing grease seal, I recommend measuring its inside and outside diameter with a digital caliper like # PTW80157. If you do not have the seal, you can also take a measurement of the mounting surface for the seal on the trailer spindle. This measurement will correspond to the correct inside diameter grease seal you need. I have attached an image that clarifies this dimension.
Lastly, if you happen to know the inner and outer bearing numbers of your hub, along with the axle capacity, I should be able to find the correct grease seal for your hub.
I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of grease seals that you can look through. You can use the facets on the left side of the page to filter through different diameters.
