Comparing Bias Tires to Radial Tires Regarding Height on ST205/75-14 Tires

Question:

Hello was wondering I need st205/75r14 tires But my trailer tire indicate st205/75d14. The question I have before purchasing tires are, that my tires sit fairly close to the fenders. Which is bias ply. Does radials sit a little higher? Even if theyre the same size? Thanks

The ST205/75R14 tires like # AM10235 are 26.3 inches outer diameter. Where the ST205/75R14 ties like # TTWTRTM2157514D are 27 inches outer diameter. So there is even some variety in the same size tires even within radials which can be a little frustrating when you have a specific clearance. Bias tires work the same way. If you let me know your current diameter, I can help you with a specific recommendation.

When looking at the difference between them, bias tires have support thread that run at a diagonal underneath the tread where radials run at 90 degrees. Which is better really depends on your application. For road driving, the radials will run a little cooler which will prolong the tread life and give you a smoother ride. For off-road or industrial use, bias tires are preferred as they are a little stronger. If you will be doing mostly highway driving, then I recommend the radials. If you will be putting them on a landscaping trailer or dump trailer, I recommend the bias tires. You will want to pay attention to the load capacity as well as the speed rating of the tires so you remain within the ratings. If speed is not listed, the default is 65 mph max and most manufacturers won't list speed rating unless it is above that standard.
