Troubleshooting Draw-Tite Electric Trailer Brake Controller Installation on 2008 Chevy Avalanche
Question:
Hi, I read your instructions and watched the video for this install. I think I found the wiring harness but the tag says dark blue = Aux, red/black = Batt, Light blue/white = CHMSL and White = ground. After hooking these up to my draw tight controller the light blue has constant power and there is no power coming from under the hood. the fuse is in there is power to the stud but nothing inside the truck. I read somewhere that there are 2 wires under the hood to connect but I only find one to the left of the fuse box. Im starting think I have the wrong harness. Ant help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For your Draw-Tite Brake controller on your 2008 Chevy Avalanche, the best way connect is by testing each function using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. This will ensure you are connecting the proper function to the proper location instead of trying to match colors. I have attached an article to assist with the wiring as well.
There is not a custom harness available for your vehicle. No plug is present under the dash, but the needed wires are already run. You will connect the brake controller wiring with the vehicle wiring already present under the dash.
One wire should have 12V power all the time when the ignition is on ACC or on. That is your 12V and will connect to the black wire on your controller. Another wire should only have power when you hit your brake pedal. This is the one to attach to the red wire of your controller.
