Using the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT with the Specialized Roll Low Entry
Question:
My wifes bike is a Specialized Roll that has a really low entry. We are looking at the Thule Doubletrack Pro and like the flexibility of the frame clamps. We just want to make sure that it will accommodate her frame without the need for an adaptor bar. Can you confirm that this bike rack will work for my wifes bike?

The Thule Doubletrack Pro XT, part # TH92BJ is a great choice for the Specialized Roll Low Entry series. The frame clamp actually rotates around its mounting point on this bike rack to better fit to the bikes loaded onto the rack, and the adjustable wheel cradles can move forward and backwards, or be oriented on the same side for better adjustability for her bike to put whatever part of the frame that you want to latch to in line with the frame clamp.
The real fitting concern that I have for the Specialized Roll is the size of the cross tube. Coming from the handlebars, its pretty thick and that is the location I'd recommend using the Frame Clamp on, as it will be slightly easier to hit well than the lower part of the frame near the gears. To fit, you'll need to measure the diameter of the downtube from side to side. It will need to be between 7/8 inches and 3-3/16 inches to fit in the clamp.
If its larger than this, a comparable rack that will also fit the bike, and has a lot of the same features as the Thule DoubleTrack is the Saris Superclamp EX, part # SA4025F. This rack, rather than having a clamp, has a wheel mount which completely bypasses the need to fit to the downtube. Its also a bit lighter than the Thule Doubletrack and is 100% made in the USA. It also is backed by Saris' lifetime warranty, and includes all locks and security features. If you have a lot of Thule accessories, this won't be able to be keyed alike to the other accessories you own.
Additionally, Saris' Freedom, part # SA4412B many of these features but uses a cradle for the frame that is as adjustable as the Thule Doubletrack's, while featuring the reduced weight and security features of the Superclamp EX.
