What is the Typical Wiring for a Tow Vehicle Side 7-Way

If you check out the picture I attached of a typical 7-Way you can see that the 12V Power is typically on the 2 o'clock position pin and the Brake Controller Output is typically on the 4 (or 5) o'clock position pin. You can verify this with a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 while applying full power with the manual override lever on your brake controller. If your trailer 7-Way is not wired in this manner then I encourage you to swap the wiring on your trailer before the wiring on your 2007 Nissan Xterra. The Epicord 7-Way # 277-000141 would help if you need to do this. Since most wiring is configured in the way that I mentioned it will mean that both your Xterra and your trailer will be compatible with more trailers and tow vehicles when done this way. If you are unsure of what pins are for what on your trailer 7-Way the you can use a 12V battery, like the one in your Xterra, and, grounding the negative terminal, connect the positive terminal to each pin on your trailer 7-Way to check the functions. Since most wiring is configured in the way that I mentioned it will mean that both your Xterra and your trailer will be compatible with more trailers and tow vehicles when done this way.

In that case I recommend switching the wire from the 12V pin with the wire in the Brake Controller Output positions. This will change the 7-Way on your Xterra to the way that a 7-Way is typically wired and will be compatible with more trailers as well.
