5th Wheel Hitch Installation Compatibility with Existing Gooseneck Hitch Setup
Question:
Hi! I have a 1999 Ford F350 4x4 crew cab, short box. It has a gooseneck hitch already installed, and I had been planning to get an offset gooseneck adapter for it. BUT, the hitch is placed to far forward to hook up an adapted 5th wheel camper. QUERY: Do I need to remove the gooseneck hitch before I can install a 5th wheel? Thanks,

If your Ford F-350's gooseneck hitch is the B&W brand's Turnoverball model # BWGNRK1108 then you can directly install their mating Companion 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. This sliding 5th wheel drops right into the gooseneck ball opening; no base rails or other parts are required.
But if you have another brand of gooseneck hitch installed it will have to be removed in order to install an industry-standard sliding 5th wheel hitch setup. On the linked page you will see all sliding 5th wheel hitches and custom install kits that fit your truck. Custom kits will take less time and require less drilling for installation.
Slider hitches vary in how much they can travel and so different hitches provide different amounts of turning clearance. Some like the Curt # C16521 provides 12-inches and the Demco # DM8550034 a full 14-inches.
You can use any brand of above-bed base rails with any brand of hitch since they are all made to the same industry-standard specs.
