Brake Controller Wiring Harness Location 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Question:

I read your answer to another question asking for the brake controll plug in location and under the dash it is. But where exactly and what might help me to identify it. Ive looked everywhere under the left of steering column area and basically everywhere else. Ive already purchased the prodigy p2controller and nec. Plug adapter. Please help. Pictures would be great. I DO HAVE AN OEM INSTALLED TOW PACKAGE

As you can see at the 1:20 mark in the attached video, the factory brake controller harness on your 2017 Jeep Cherokee will be located under the driver's side dash panel. The connector will be grey in color and positioned just to the left of where the brake pedal mounts to the firewall.

In addition to the video, I have attached a photo per your request of the harnesses location.

My 2017 Jeep did not come with the factory tow package. I added a hitch from eTrailer and then had the dealership re-flash the control chip ($60). There is also no wiring harness with plug under the steering column or brake assembly. I assume I will need to have a professional install a harness. Can you recommend which wiring I should buy?

I'm guessing that you already have wiring installed on your Jeep? If it's just a 4-Way flat then you need to use the # ETBC7 wiring kit and use that to splice in a brake controller. All of our brake controllers come with a pigtail that you will use to splice everything in. As an example check out the product page for the Prodigy P3 # 90195. You will need to connect the following color wires from your pigtail to the following functions: Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer Black - 12V Power White - Ground Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)

If your Jeep came with the factory tow package there will be an actual port/plug behind the dash that you'll use to install a trailer brake controller. You will indeed have to pull off that panel in question to expose it. If you're uncomfortable doing this you could bring it up to a local Jeep dealer for some help.

i purchased the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers for the 2018 Jeep Grand cherokee with the OEM Towing package. The Jeep wire harness is male. but your harness also is male, as i have seen after receiving it. What can i do?

The "male" plug that you're seeing under the dash of your Jeep is just a cap. This needs to be removed to expose the female plug that the adapter will plug into.
