Do 2-1/2 Inch to 2 Inch Hitch Adapters Cut Hitch Capacity
Question:
I have read in some sources and at least one post on your website here that using any hitch adapter sleeve will reduce the towing capacity of the vehicle and trailer, especially if the sleeve extends beyond the end of the trucks receiver tube. Is this true? And if so, are there any adapter sleeves on the market that do NOT reduce the towing/weight capacity? Thank you!

Expert Reply:
If you are reducing the hitch size like for example, from 2.5 inch to 2 inch then an adapter like the # C45405 would fit and would not reduce capacity at all.
If you are trying to go from smaller to bigger though you do cut capacity by 50 percent.
