Tongue Weight Capacity of 2013 Dodge Durango With Draw-Tite Hitch

Question:

The owners manual states that if the trailer towing package was not equipped by the factory then the tongue wt. is reduced from 720 lbs. to 350 lbs. does this specification remain the same with your hitch package 75713 for the 2013 Dodge Durango 5.7L AWD ?

Expert Reply:

Tongue weight capacity is limited by the lowest-rated factor, so even with a hitch that has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 900 lbs such as the Draw-Tite # 75713, your 2013 Dodge Durango will still have a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs without the trailer tow package.

I've included a link to a video install of this hitch on a '13 Durango for you to take a look at.

So the manual says the max trailer tongue weight is 620lbs for the v6 with awd. Is that the max no matter what even if I come a 1000lbs under the towing capacity?

That's correct. The 620 lbs is the max downward force your vehicle can handle at the back so you don't want to exceed this. A properly loaded trailer should be 10-15% of the weight of the loaded trailer. You can use a scale like # e99044 to make sure that you are falling within this range.
