Why Are Service Body Trailer Hitches Not Rated for Weight Distribution Systems
Question:
I recently purchases a draw tite ultra frame service body trailer hitch v-2inch weld on rated for 16,000 and 1600 and I need a weight distribution hitch for my trailer. I noticed after installing that the instructions say not for weight distribution set ups. why is that because I need one bad. I dont see any reason for not being able to use one with this hitch.

The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2" # 41990-07 based on the manufacturers testing is not for use with weight distributions systems. This is the case for all of the universal fit service body style trailer hitches.
This is most likely because of liability because these style hitches rely on third party welding and the tube is also not welded to the brackets. There is extra torque on the hitch receiver to spread out that total tongue weight so not being able to completely test it would restrict stating it can be used in that capacity.
If sway is the issue, you can still use friction sway control like the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 and use # RP26003 on your ball mount.
