Adapting a Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack with a 1-1/4 Inch Shank for a 2 Inch Hitch
Question:
looking at buying a used hold up that has a 1.25 hitch on it, can i use a 2 inch adapter without compromising the rack?

Expert Reply:
The adapter, part # 80300 is likely not a great fit, as it will reduce your hitch's tongue weight by 50% and may make your rack entirely unusable because your hitch won't have the capacity to carry anything else.
Instead, I recommend a little more involved process that will preserve the rack's capacity. You can replace your tongue/stinger with part # 8880580. This will swap the 1-1/4 tongue with a 2-inch tongue by reinstalling the tongue. This has the benefit of behaving exactly like you'd just purchased a new 2-inch version. The downside is that the installation hardware is not included, meaning you'd have to provide your own tools.
