Recommended Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier for 2017 Dodge Journey
Question:
I have a 2017 Dodge Journey SE 2.4L and am considering installing a hitch receiver for a rear cargo rack rather than a roof cargo rack. What receiver do you recommend? Thank you!

Going with a hitch-mounted cargo rack on your 2017 Dodge Journey is a great idea. For your vehicle, I recommend the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C13201. This hitch is custom-fit for your Dodge Journey and will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. It will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening for hitch-mounted accessories and a 400 pound tongue weight capacity. I recommend this over the Draw-Tite hitch that is also confirmed to fit your vehicle because it has a more hidden design that will look great at the rear of your vehicle.
I have attached an installation video on your 2017 Dodge Journey that you can use for reference.
Then for a cargo carrier, I recommend looking at the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151. This is an excellent, powder coated steel carrier that has inside/usable dimensions of 60-1/8 inches wide, 23-3/4 inches deep, and 5-1/2 inches tall. It also features a 2 inch rise on the shank that will increase your ground clearance. The folding design allows the carrier to be tilted up against the vehicle when not in use and the built-in reflectors will add visibility for increased safety.
You may also be interested in a cargo bag like the etrailer.com # 988501 or tie-down straps like # IMF12637 to secure your cargo inside the basket.
I have attached a video demonstration on this cargo carrier as well as a link that will take you to our available selection that you can look through.
