Question:

We have a chevy silverado high county. The ball hitch sits 18 inches from the ground. Our 1984 mallard camping trailer needs the A frame tongue jack replacement. Im not understanding what is extended height measurement and retracted height. The jack wr have now is 21 inches from the ground to the bottom of the hitch. 23 inches from the A frame to the top of the jack. The 3 mounting bracket bolts are 3 inches on center. Can you help.

The extended and retracted height measurements are important in finding the right jack for you and your trailer. These measurements determine the distance from the bottom of the Jack mounting flange when fully retracted and extended. With these measurements, you can determine how the jack will mount and what clearance will be needed for hooking/unhooking and travel.

A great A Frame Tongue Jack replacement is the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack Item # JET-5000.

This jack has a 5,000 lb lifting capacity (based on tongue weight which is less than overall trailer weight) which makes it strong enough for most any application. I believe will give you plenty of clearance for hooking/unhooking and travel. It also mounts to standard 3 inch bolt pattern bracket.

The Stromberg Carlson # JET-5000 has a manual crank option which is handy when needed.
