Converting European 7-Way Wiring Harness on 1997 Jeep Wrangler Back to US 4-Way Wiring Harness

I have a US spec 1997 Jeep Wrangler. I was stationed in Europe and bought a european motorcycle trailer. An Italian Jeep dealership installed a wiring harness for me with a round 7 pin connector. It works fine with my Italian trailer, but I want to rent a U-Haul here in the US and that has a 4 pin connector. Is there any kind of adapter that I can use between my round, 7 pin connector and the rectangular 4 pin connector of a US trailer? If not, I will likely replace the wiring harness on the Jeep, and re-wire my trailer. thanks!

On a European 7-Way trailer connector, the connector is pinned out differently than those used in the United States. They also use more wires to cover the same functions as a US wiring configuration. I would not have an adapter that could be used to adapt your European 7-Way connector to a US 4-Way connector. It would be much more beneficial to wire the trailer to work with a US configuration and to replace the wiring harness on your 1997 Jeep Wrangler back to US specs.

When you rewire your European trailer, you will also need to replace the tail lights, since the European trailer lights are designed to work with separate wires for each function. We have several kits that include lights, wiring, and some have marker lights as well. I have included a link to the available tail light kit options for you to view.

The 4-Way wiring harness you will need for your 1997 Jeep Wrangler to be able to tow the rented U-Haul trailer here in the US will be the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118356. This harness will plug into connection points located underneath both rear corners of your Jeep Wrangler, behind the protective covers. I am including a link to the installation instructions that will show where they are connected.
