Motorcycle Trailer Tire Air Pressure Required

Question:

I asked a question about tire pressure yesterday and you responded quickly and I thank you. However I gave you the wrong tire size. The correct tire size is 5.30x12. I am thinking of purchasing new Kenda tires and wonder if the tire pressure can be reduced in these tire to stop the center from wearing out so fast. Thank you for your extra efforts and quick response.

If your motorcycle trailer has ST (special trailer) tires, then they are made to be run at the max psi. If they do not have this ST distinction, then you most likely can run them at a slightly lower tire pressure. I recommend confirming with the manufacturer of your tires as we don't carry any tires that size. I wouldn't go with anyone else's advice as it could be a safety issue for you and/or others.

No problem. The answer is the same even with the new tire size. If they are ST tires, you should always run them at their max psi. If they are not, you will need to contact the tire manufacturer. Wear in the center can mean over-inflation or can just be normal road use depending on the specific tire. It can also mean that you are traveling too fast for the trailer tire. Many trailer tires are rated for a max speed of 65 mph. I recommend you go with the Taskmaster 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TTWSF48012C which even though it is a slightly thinner tire, will give you a speed rating of up to 81 mph. These tires will fit on your current wheels.
