Suspension Enhancement for a 2005 Aljo 22.5 Tandem Axle Trailer

Question:

All suspension parts are labeled Dexter. The springs are 4 leaf, 1 3/4, 9/16 inch shackle, and measure 20 7/8 inch to 21 inch center to center. I assume these were 20 3/8 inch originally. Is it normal to have 2 2000 lb. axles under a trailer this size? I would have thought it should have been more. There is no damage to the equaliziers. Should I order 4 ea. e84SR springs? Do you have other recommendations?

Expert Reply:

Leaf springs can end up stretching a little over time which is why it is very important to make sure that the 20-3/8" measurement from center eye to center eye for the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e84SR is compatible with your current suspension setup. If it will fit then there is no reason why you cannot use it.

If you have two 2,000-lb axles on your trailer that means that the total weight capacity of your axles is 4,000 lbs (granted your tires are rated for at least that much). If your trailer is rated for about 4,000 lbs then these axles should be the correct ones. You will just need to make sure that you do not carry more weight than what the lowest rated component on your trailer is rated for.
