Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for a 2007 Ford Expedition and Jayco Trailer

Question:

I am purchasing a 2010 jayco 23J hybrid trailer and will be towing it with a 2007 Ford Expedition EL. The GTW of the trailer is 6,500 and TW of around 785. I need to add a wd hitch with sway control to get enough tongue weight for my expedition. My Ford manuel says 910 tw with wd hitch and GTW of 9100. Is the RP66560 hitch I want or would you recommend something else?

With a tongue weight of 785 pounds, you will want a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses that 785 pounds. The Reese Steadi-Flex system, # RP66560, that you have referenced has a range of 600 to 1,200 pounds so it is a good choice.

This system includes friction style sway control which is a reactive system. This means that it works to stop trailer sway after it has already started. I usually recommend a system with dual-cam sway control like # RP66084. Dual-cam systems are pro-active meaning they stop trailer sway before it starts. I have included links to the installation details for this system as well.

For either system, you will need a properly sized ball like # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).
