Recommended Bike Rack and Fat Tire Adapter That Will fit 4.8 Tires

Question:

There are some great bike racks and racks with adapters that will work with your 4.8" tires, though the Kuat Transfer 2 # KU74FR will only accept tires up to 4.5" wide with the adapter. I highly recommend checking out the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA22B, which comes with an adapter to carry one fat bike with 4.8" tires, though if you needed to carry a pair of fat bikes you could add the Phat Bike Adapter Kit for Kuat Bike Racks # APBK. The Kuat NV is a premium rack that uses ratcheting hooks to grasp your wheels as well as straps so there is never frame contact with your bike. It also features a foot lever so you can easily tilt the rack down with the bikes loaded for access to your rear storage. The NV has a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike and comes with security features to protect your investment, a hitch lock to keep the rack on your vehicle and cables locks to keep your bikes safely on the rack. Another option would be the Saris Freedom # SA4412B, which uses rubber cradles which grip your bikes by the downtube as well as sliding wheel trays with straps. To use your fat bike you would need Fat Tire Adapter Kit for Saris Freedom Bike Racks # SA4419, which is for tires up to 5" wide. It has a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike but the rack itself weighs just 22.5 lbs. This rack does not come with locks, so for a hitch lock you would want to use # SA3022 and for a cable lock you'd want # SA981. If you were interested in a bike rack that did not need an adapter to carry your 4.8" tires, I recommend checking out the Thule T2 Classic # TH9044, which can carry bikes with tires up to 5" wide and offers a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike. The T2 has a HitchSwitch lever which allows you to tilt the rack down for access to your rear cargo. It has ratcheting hooks to hold your bikes by the front wheels and straps that fit around your fat tires. It also comes with a hitch lock for security and to lessen rattling. I've attached photos so you can see how each rack looks when mounted to a vehicle. I've also added links to video reviews of these products, as well as a link to our page with our selection of bike racks.
