Reasons for Tire Failure and Recommended Replacement ST225/75R15 Tires for Trailer
Question:
I have a Holiday Rambler Alumalite Tandem Axle trailer using ST225/75R tires. I upgraded from Goodyear Marathon load range D to Towmax load range E tires. In less than 200 miles two of the new tires experienced tread separation, and they both tore up the wheel wells. The tires were kept at 75-80 lbs. Both were on the same rear axle, opposite sides. The manufacturer of the trailer provided load range C tires as stock. The trailer was not overloaded. The trailer has always been on paved roads. One tire actually remained inflated with the tread gone. The manufacturer refused to take responsibility for the events saying it was not their fault and was probably caused by a road hazard. Can you suggest a solution to my dilemma?

Trailer tire failure can be caused by a number of things. To help extend the life of trailer tires, it is very important to make sure you are not overloading their capacity and that the tires are always inflated to the maximum psi as listed on the sidewall. When a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than its listed maximum, this essentially reduces its load capacity to an unknown number and can lead to you unknowingly exceeding its weight limit. Also note that most trailer tires have a maximum speed rating of 65 mph. Exceeding the tire's speed rating can also cause heat to built up in the tire and lead to its failure.
I cannot be sure what ultimately lead to the tire failure you experienced, but following these steps will put your trailer tires in the best possible position for lasting a long time and through many trips.
If you are needing replacement tires for your Holiday Rambler, I recommend looking at the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL304. This is an excellent radial tire that features a maximum load of 2,830 pounds at 80 psi and a high speed rating of 75 mph. The great thing about this particular tire and what sets it apart from others is the length and content of its warranty. This tire comes with a 5-year warranty that also includes 2 years of complimentary roadside assistance. This means that if you have a flat tire, you can simply call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this trailer tire that you can also check out.
