Does Trailer Wiring for 2009 Toyota Corolla Need to be Grounded
Question:
The instructions that accompany the Curt package include a step 5 Step 5 Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame or drill a 3/32 pilot hole for the provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. WARNING: Check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and / or personal injury. The package did not contain an obvious, independent white ground wire that could be secured in the manner suggested. Is it necessary to strip the white wire between the connectors and secure it? Or is this step a misprint?

Expert Reply:
The Curt trailer wiring harness part # 55542 that you have does have instructions that say to ground a white wire yet the harness does not have a white wire to ground. That step is in there by mistake and you would be fine to ignore it.
