Do Jaws on M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch PS30119 Automatically Open when Hitching Up

Do I have to pull the pin before ai back in and hook up or can I just back in and let the kingpin spread the jaws themselves?

Yes, the jaw on the M5 Series 5th wheel trailer hitch # RP30928 will automatically open when the trailer king pin is forced into the hitch when you back up the truck.
There is a latch on the handle that has to be opened or the jaws will not be able to open. So you would do that first and then hitch up. The detailed process is explained in the manual I have linked below for you.
