Hazards Turn on 2012 Ford Explorer When Headlights on RV are Turned on
Question:
I have installed a blue ox 2632-45 to a 2012 explorer. all is good except lighting. when the rv headlights turned off the running lights and brake lights are ok on the explorer.. I used the brake lights as the source for turn and brake, instead of amber lenses and leds on the ford exp. when the headlights are turned on the motor home the hazards on the ford light up and flash even though the amber light circuits were never touched or compromised. Unless I have spliced white ground from four flat trailer wire ground into the black wires behind the tail light assy wrong im not sure as to what is happening. the motor home doesnt have amber turn lights but does have a tall tailight housings and may posiibly need a tailight converter? with a 12 volt battery I can activate the red running lights from new plug installed onto the explorer. I also can light up each brake light seperately on the explorer. Hook it to the rv Factory seven way plug and leave the headlights off everything works the same way and is fine. when the headlights are turned on the Rv it wacks out the ford explorer and starts lighting up amber on both side of rear lights on the explorer. Any ideas?

It sounds like your ground could be the problem in this situation. The Ground wire on the Blue Ox Tow Bar Wiring Kit # BX8848 needs to be run to a main Ground or installed directly to a clean, bare metal surface on the chassis of your 2012 Ford Explorer. If you ran the white Ground wire from your 4-Way to the tail lights then you could possibly be getting some residual signal which could be causing your hazard lights to flash.
Go ahead and disconnect the Ground wire and Ground it to see if that fixes the problem. You can use 16 Gauge Wire # 16-1-1 along with Butt Connectors # DW05744-5 and a Ring Terminal # DW05737-1 if needed.
If that doesn't fix your problem let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.
