Installing Trailer Hitch on 2017 Ford Edge
Question:
I’m very worried about taking off the rear bumper heat shield permanently. Is this going to cause any structural support or heat issues with my bumper? I read one review where someone made brackets to better support their bumper? I don’t want to have to make anything so my bumper doesn’t move around.

When installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75234 on your 2017 Ford Edge, the center plastic panel with heat shields will need to be removed. This will not affect the integrity of the bumper and the hitch itself will actually act as a heat shield so there will no loss when removing this panel. You will not need to make special brackets to support the bumper after the hitch is installed.
I have attached an installation video on your 2017 Ford Edge so you can see exactly what the process entails.
If you plan on doing any towing, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118669. This custom-fit harness will connect to existing ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights on the vehicle. This will provide a 4-Way connector at the rear of your Ford Edge to connect with and power the trailer's signal lights. I have again included an installation video that you can use for reference.
To tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your towing setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
