Can a Weight Distribution System be Used on a 22 Foot Aluminum Trailer With a 4 Foot V-Nose
Question:
I have a 2007 Ford Expedition and a 22 foot Aluminum ATC trailer with a 4 foot V nose. I have been told that due to the configuration of the trailer that I cannot use a weight distributing hitch. Have any new products come out to address this? Please let me know if you have any solutions.

On a trailer with a V-Nose you cannot use the standard weight distribution systems with the chain hangers for the spring bars that go over the top of the trailer frame, but a simple bracket switch, and you can use a weight distribution system. But since the trailer is aluminum you will need to contact the trailer manufacturer to make sure it can be used with weight distribution.
Traditional chain hanger brackets go over the top of the frame, but a V-Nose trailer cabin sits on the top of the frame where the brackets need to go. So, the solution is to use the Reese Side-Mount Chain Hangers, like part # RP58305, instead of the included snap-up brackets that come standard in the Pro Series RB2 Round Bar Weight Distribution Kit, part # 49570.
These chain hangers will mount 31 inches from the center of the hangers to the center of the hitch ball. You will need to jack up the trailer when hooking up the spring bars to the side-mount chain hangers.
If you want to add sway control to the Pro Series weight distribution kit you will need to use the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, part # 83660. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the sway control kit.
