If you already have a 4-Way on your 1997 BMW Z3, then you are half way there, if not, you will need to add the Curt Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit C59236.
Once you have a 4-Way installed you will need to add a 7-Way Brake Controller Installation Kit, # ETBC7, to the vehicle. This kit includes all of the wiring, connectors and circuit breakers needed for installation of a 7-Way connector on your vehicle. We have detailed instructions, see link, for installation of this kit for you to use. Make sure that all power connections are made to the vehicle battery, through one of the included circuit breakers, to protect the vehicles sensitive circuitry.
We also have a detailed installation video that should help you with your installation, see link.
If your Tear Drop trailer has electric brakes, you will also need a brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller, item # 90885, would be a good choice for your application, and will install with the kit mentioned above.
