Installing the Tekonsha P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 on a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD
Question:
I just purchased a 2008 Sierra 2500HD and want to hook up my P2 that I pulled from my 2003 Chevy 1500. I can not figur out what harness I need to hook back up the Pordigy. Do I need to splice the wires and hook it in the panel next to the break? Not quite sure what Im missing...any help would be appreciated...

The 2008 GMC Sierra will not have a port for a brake controller wiring harness, but it will have blunt cut wires located under the dash, below the steering column and to the left of the brake pedal. The wires are held together by a white tag or tape that may also list the functions of each wire. It is possible that the wires/functions of the tow package wiring under the dash is as follows:
Brake Controller White to Truck White (ground)
Brake Controller Black to Truck Red (12 volt power)
Brake Controller Blue to Truck Dark Blue (electric brake output)
Brake Controller Red to Truck Light Blue (stop light)
If you find an orange wire, do not connect it. It can be taped up and stowed out of the way.
After connecting and mounting the Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller, # 90885, according to the instructions, linked for reference, there may be some connections that you will need to make under the hood of your Sierra in order to make the tow package active. I have included a link to an FAQ article that will explain the process.
If the truck came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, then after making the connections under the hood, installation is complete. If the truck needs a 7-Way, you will need part # PK11916. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation on a similar truck for reference.
