Weight Distribution and Sway Control Recommendation for 2009 Fun Finder Trailer and 2009 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2009 Ford F-150 4x4 supercab with 4.6L 3 valve V-8 with 3.73 rear end. My camper is a 2009 Fun Finder GVW 5700# looking to add a weight distribution system with sway control. What would the recommended system be. We travel across country from PA to Colorado carrying 150 - 300 # of gear in the bed of the truck while pulling the camper.

With a trailer that weighs 5,700 pounds, plus the 300 pounds of gear, we are looking at 6,000 pounds. You will want a weight distribution system that has a tongue wight capacity range that encompasses 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight with it loaded and ready to tow.

That would put your Fun Finder tongue weight at 600 to 900 pounds, so I recommend going with a system rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds like Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control, # RP66084. This system comes with the necessary adjustable shank so you would just need a properly sized ball like # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).

This system also comes with built-in dual-cam sway control. This is a pro-active system that stops trailer sway before it starts. I have included a link to the installation details for the weight distribution system as well as a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control.
