Weight Distribution Spring Bar Arms Making Contact with Trailer Frame on Tight Turns

Question:

After installing the Reese 66074 weight distribution system, I made a test turn and the front of the trunion arms will come in contact with the trailer during turning manuevers. How can I correct this?

If your trailer has a more narrow frame than a typical A-frame trailer, that can cause the problem with contact. Either way, what you can do is to make sure that the spring bars are positioned in such a way as to allow them to pass beneath the frame instead of making contact with it.

This could involve letting out a few of the chain links. If you are still having a problem, using the Bolt-on Chain Hangers, # RP58305, might be what you need. These hangers bolt to the outside of the frame (frame can be no wider than 2-1/4 inches). When using these hanger in place of the lift up brackets, you will need to use the trailer jack to attach the chains.

Also make sure you have the head adjusted properly according to the installation instructions. I have provided a link to the instructions for reference.
