Installing a Brake Controller in a 1996 Chevy Suburban K2500 with Aftermarket 7-Way Installed
Question:
I just bought a 1996 Chevy Suburban K2500. It has a U-Haul hitch receiver and U-Haul 7 way trailer connector installed. I have a Prodigy 2 brake controller from our last vehicle. What do I need to be able to connect the P2 to the Suburban?

On your 1996 Chevy Suburban K2500, some models do have the brake (blue) and hot lead (orange or red) wires already ran from under the hood to the end of the driver's side frame rail. However, these wires are hard to access and additional wire will still be needed. I recommend using the wiring # 5506 to make sure your connection to your brake controller and your 7-way are functional whether using the pre-run wires or not. If you do not use pre-run wires, then I recommend using the circuit breakers in this kit for your installation in addition to the wiring. There will be splicing and hardwiring needed in either case.
I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to confirm the functions before connecting wires. I've attached a photo to help with the wiring location and functions.
