Installing a SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack on a 2013 Volkswagen Golf

Question:

Hi, I watched your video about installation of the SR1010 rack for a 2013 VW Jetta and although I know the Jetta is not the same car as a Golf with a trunk, Im thinking the roofline and door frames are similar. The video said to place the two clamps 27 inches apart. I have a 2013 Golf and a clam shell-style cargo carrier that has holes drilled in the bottom of the carrier intended for the bolted brackets that are 21 or so inches apart. I could drill new holes to locate the brackets at 27 inches apart, but Id rather not of course. So the question is, what is the distance apart the two rack clamps should be placed on a 2013 VW Golf? And can they be placed at 21 inches apart? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Expert Reply:

The recommended distance of a 2013 Golf's roof bars for the SportRack Semi-Custom Kit, part # SR1010 is approximately 25 inches apart. I can't recommend installing them at any other length because this can cause risk of damage to the rack or vehicle, and void the rack's warranty.

Your best option is to drill the new holes in the bottom of the cargo box to fit them to your roof rack.
