Bike Rack Compatibility with 1-1/4-Inch Class I Hitch on 2002 Honda Civic

Question:

My 2002 Honda Civic already had a hitch on it when i got it. The hitch says draw tite. When installing my bike rack I found out it wouldnt push in far enough to install the threaded bolt. Any ideas on how to resolve my dilemina? I measured my threaded hole in the bike rack mount. It is 2inch back from the tip. I hit the limit tab at about 1 3/4 inch.

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Draw-Tite hitch that is on your 2002 Honda Civic Sedan is a Class I type that can only be used with a Class I-rated accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. There is a Class I hitch by Curt, # C11204, available for your Civic that does not have the stop.

There are Class II hitches made for some cars that are the same 1-1/4-inch size but these can be used with any 1-1/4-inch accessory. Class I hitches can only be used with Class I-rated items such as the 2-bike and cargo carriers shown on the linked pages, such as cargo carrier # C18110.
