Troubleshooting Weld Nuts for Hitch Installation on 2006 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I purchased and installed the 75153 max-frame on my 06 Toyota Highlander. However, after removing the plugs that were hiding the treads for the third bolts on each side of the frame. I tried hand screwing in the bolts in that third hole and it doesnt seem to be tightening. So what Ive done for now is Ive secured the four tie down bracket holes. Need help in troubleshooting this. Need to know if itll be okay with just the four or do I need all six bolts in? Will be towing a 17foot bass boat.

It is often necessary to clear out the frame weld nuts used to mount a hitch. Especially on vehicles that are a few years old there can be some slight corrosion within the threads on those nuts that can make it tough to get the bolts started. You can refer to the two linked articles for help.

A spray-on lubricant/solvent like WD40 or PB BLaster can help dissolve that rust/grit and make it possible to thread in all of the fasteners included with your Draw-Tite hitch # 75153.

Your hitch will deliver its rated capacity and provide for safe towing only when it is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions, which are also linked for you. Be sure to follow the torque specs for all fasteners that are indicated in those instructions.
