What Parts are Needed to Dinghy Tow a 2008 Ford Edge?
Question:
Can a 2008 Ford Edge be towed behind an RV?

Expert Reply:
Yes, your 2008 Ford Edge can be flat-towed behind an RV. There are a number of parts you would need, starting with the base plates. I recommend using the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 4408-1 and the tow bar I suggest you pair with it is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520. You'll need to use safety chains # RM-643 I've linked videos for you showing the base plates being installed and a review of the tow bar.
To ensure you have working brake lights and turn signals on your Edge, there are a couple of options. The simplest, which you may want to consider if you plan on rarely towing your Edge, is to use the Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK, uses a 4-way connector to gain power, but also has a harness with a 4-way that can be wired into your RV if it does not have a connector. A more permanent solution would be to use the Roadmaster Universal Wiring Kit # 154-792-118158; you can take a look at the video showing how this is installed as well as a review of the magnetic lights in the links I've provided.
A supplemental braking system is now required in most states, and I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play # SM99251, which is designed to be effective and convenient - there is nothing for you to activate, turn off or tune once it's installed.
Finally, you are likely going to need a high-low adapter for your tow bar. I've added a link to a help article on high-low adapters as well as a link to our page with each of our adapters on it.
