Troubleshooting TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension Not Working After Heavy Rain
Question:
After pulling my trailer using a Chevy pickup with a diesel engine, the trailer brakes started to kick in off and on while driving on the highway. Couldnt get the cruise control to work and emergency flashers wouldnt work on the pickup or trailer. I removed the extension TLW6021 and plugged directly into the pickup and all the problems went away. Was raining quite a bit before this happened. Could this be attributed to water getting inside the extension? Is there a way to check if this device is still good to use and maybe seal it next time?

Since everything on the truck and trailer worked perfectly when removing the TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension # TLW6021, the issue certainly appears to be within the extension itself. I recommend checking the connector and plug for any dirt or debris that you can see between and inside the pins, simply cleaning out as needed. Debris build up within the connector can lead to shorts can cause the type of issue you experienced on your last trip.
There might also be some internal corrosion built up inside the unit, which would have happened over time. A single rainstorm is unlikely to lead to this type of damage. Simply clean out everything as much as you can and retest the functions on the extender by plugging into your vehicle 7-Way. You can then test the pins on the connector with a circuit tester like # PTW2993.
If it is still not working properly, then it may simply be in need of replacement.
