Recommended Equal-I-zer Weight Distribution System for Travel Trailer with 900-lb Tongue Weight

Question:

Im looking at the Equalizer 90001000 system to pull a 25foot Travel trailer with a GVWR of 7044lbs and a hitch weight of 414lbs. I dont know how much weight Ill have loaded into the truck bed yet. Is this too much product for what Ill be using it for?

Trailer weight distribution/sway control systems (WD/SC) are best selected after measuring the actual tongue weight (TW) of your trailer when it is loaded up with your usual mix of supplies and recreational equipment, and with your water and propane tanks filled, etc. Dry hitch weight by itself is not ideal for deciding on a system because it will always be lower than your loaded TW. Tongue weight scale # e99044 takes the guesswork out of the equation. To this you need to add the weight of any cargo in the truck that sits behind the rear axle, say a loaded cooler or generator.

When a trailer is properly loaded its TW should be in the range of 12- to 14-percent of the trailer gross weight, its GVWR. A trailer with a GVWR of 7044-lbs, when loaded correctly, will have TW in the range of 850- to 1000-lbs. The system # FA94-00-0600 works for TW from 400- to 600-lbs so it would definitely be too light for your loaded trailer.

Equal-I-zer system # EQ37120ET would be a good choice since it works over a TW range of 800- to 1200-lbs. This comes complete with the shank and 2-5/16-inch hitch ball. All you might want to add is a thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 for tightening the hitch ball.
