Will Pro Series Cargo Carrier 63153 Fit 2017 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

My 2 door 2017 Jk has a maximum tow weight of 2000lbs. Yet the factory hitch is a class 2 .. A 3500 lb. rated reciever can carry a maximum 300lb. Load isnt the the 63153 a class 3 ? ...not sure of the mfg maximum tongue weight, unless that is the 2000lb tow weight. does this make sense? Im assuming they put on the class 2 so the JK can be towed on the back of a camper.. I need to know if the 63153 Pro Series would be too heavy for the JK, if it would cause steering problems and high front end lift at highway speeds. Exactly how much weight would it reasonably accept? Husband went ahead and purchased already, he weighs about 200 lbs and sat in the cage as I watched the front of my jeep go up. I think its a bit heavy if not a bit overkill..My concern is the fullcrum effect and the extension of the hitch behind the jeep for driving stability.

If your factory hitch has a 2,000 lb trailer capacity then it would have a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs.

The part # 63153 weighs 59 lbs and is designed to fit a hitch with a 2 inch opening. If you have a 2 inch hitch on your vehicle this will fit and you'd have 141 lbs left for cargo weight.

If you have a Class II hitch (1-1/4 inch opening) this would not fit your hitch. Instead you'd need the part # 63155 which fits the smaller hitch size. This weighs 39 lbs.

If you stay under the towing capacities for the vehicle you wouldn't have any adverse affects.
