Recommended Replacement Tires For 2013 Jayco Jay Series Sport Trailer with 5.30-12 Tires

Question:

I have a 2013 Jay Series Sport Camping Trailer that I need new tires for as I have blown several. Is a conversion that will clear a 13inch wheel and tire combination? Currently it has a 5.30-12. Thanks

For a replacement for your current tires, I recommend the Taskmaster 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # TA76RR. These tires have a load rating of 1,050 lbs at 80 psi and a speed rating of up to 81 mph.

Your 5.30-12 tires have an outer diameter of 21.5 inches and width of 5.3 inches. Moving to a 13-inch wheel would jump your size to ST175/80-13 which has an outer diameter of 24.1 inches and width of 7 inches. This is a significant jump in size giving you about 1 inch less inner tire side wall clearance and raising your ground clearance and suspension travel by a little over 1-1/4 inches.

If you have the space to make that change, I recommend the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31985. This combo is rated for 1610 lbs at 65 psi and has no listed speed rating, so it is limited to 65 mph max.

Tire blowouts are often a result of over inflation or under inflation of your tires. Your tires are manufactured to be run at the max psi listed on your tires when filled cold. This allows your tires to run with proper tread, load bearing, and sidewall strength. Improper inflation causes the tire to wear unevenly, overheat, and sacrifice traction as well as strength.
