Rear Suspension Enhancements for a 2005 Volkswagen Passat TDI
Question:
Hello, I am considering buying the aforementioned air springs to assist with heavy loads in my Passat wagon when we go camping. However, i noticed a statement on the webpage for this item that said this product is NOT for TDIs. Any ideas why this is so? I dont see the Airlift 1000 product available on your site for my car, whereas I think I noticed people over at TDI Club Forums saying they had purchased that brand from you in the past. Can you clarify? Thank you in advance.

I called my contact at Firestone and they informed me that the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F4105 are not compatible with the TDI versions of the 2005 Volkswagen Passat due to the rear shocks mounting location.
For a similar rear suspension enhancement option that is compatible with the TDI version of your vehicle, I recommend using the Coil SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension part # CSS-1125R. These SumoSprings are designed to increase ride comfort and enhance your coil suspension's ability to support loads. They work very similar to the Coil-Rite airbags and are much easier to install in addition to being completely maintenance free.
I have attached both a review and installation video of the SumoSprings for you.
