Recommended Transmission Cooler for a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
I did not see a transmission cooler listed for a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with am auto CVT transmission. Do you have an updated listing for coolers? The OEM configuration consists of a radiator coolant / transmission fluid heat exchanger located on the side of the transmission. I wanted to mount an auxillary cooler in front of the radiator and route the lines back to the OEM cooler. I ordered a trailer hitch from you about 2 years ago. However, when towing a light load within the MFGs specified towing capacity, I still smell burning transmission fluid when pulling up long hills for extended periods in hot weather.

I spoke with my contact at Derale and they informed me that there is no reason as to why an aftermarket transmission cooler would not be compatible with the CVT transmission in your 2016 Subaru Crosstrek.
I recommend using the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13504 as this will be an excellent option to bring down the transmission fluid temperatures in your vehicle while towing. As long as you have 11" wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep of space in front of the radiator behind your grill, this cooler will work well for you. You can route the aftermarket auxiliary cooler either before or after your factory transmission cooler.
I have attached both a review and installation video of this transmission cooler for you.
