How to Route 4-Way Connector Outside of 2006 Toyota RAV4 to Install Electric Brake Controller
Question:
Setting up 2006 Rav4 for towing 1500 lb trailer with electric brakes. The Curt T- 4-pole C56165 video shows install leaving the connector inside when not used, but your install for the brake controller 7-way ETBC7 shows a permanent connection of the flat 4 to the 7-way under the car. Im unclear if the Flat 4 can be routed properly under the car without cutting and splicing the connector???which may not be that difficult?

Great question! When you install the Brake Controller Installation Kit, # ETBC7 on your 2006 RAV4 you will be permanently attaching the 4-way from your vehicle wiring harness to the 7-way adapter, so you will want to run the 4-way to the outside of the vehicle so that it is not hanging out of your cargo area at all times.
In the installation video for the # C56165 , you will notice that there is a grommet that is used for running the black battery lead (7:40 on the video). To get your 4-way to the outside of the RAV4, you can cut a slit in that grommet to make it large enough to feed the 4-way through. Once you complete the # ETBC7 installation, you will need to seal it back up using some silicone sealant like # 0160297 to keep moisture and fumes from the vehicle interior.
I have included a link to a an article with helpful tips on routing wires as well as a link to the installation video mentioned above.
