Why Wont 1-1/4 inch Hitch Bike Rack Fit in Class I Hitch of Vehicle

Question:

I have installed a hitch I recently purchased with you and tried to mount a new bike rack onto it, but it would not fit. The bike rack is the correct size for the hitch so I took a closer look at the hitch, and it appears that there is an extra molding of metal inside the hitch preventing the rack from sliding all the way into the hitch. On the outside of the hitch it looks like there is a dent, which caused extra metal to be pushed to the interior of the hitch and causing the problem. please let me know how to fix this problem and if I need to exchange hitches. I will be traveling across the country in 2 weeks and need a working hitch by then! Thank you. I can send photos if you need.

What you have found in your hitch tube is an intentional device added to the hitch to prevent you from using a Class II only hitch accessory in a Class I hitch. Class I hitches are lower capacity and Class II accessories will be too heavy and could potentially damage the hitch.

So the best solution you have is to go with a bike rack that is Class I compatible.

The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly everyone's top three. Check out the review video I attached for more info.
