How to Install Separate 4-Pole Harness in Addition to Factory 7-way/4-Pole on 2012 Ram 1500

Question:

My 2012 Ram has OEM 4way and 7 way trailer wire connector. I need to use both at same time but both covers cannot be open at same time to do this. Is there an adapter to plug into current 7way outlet with both 4and7 way availability? Or, is such a double outlet available to replace my current sockets tha will fit into my current opening in my bumper?

Some combination 7-way/4-pole vehicle sockets like # HM40975 have covers that interfere with each other such that both connectors cannot be used at the same time.

The easiest fix is to install a separate 4-pole harness like # 118384 inline with the existing factory connector. This part simply plugs in inline with the factory connector by inserting it between the back of the 7-way and the round U.S. Car connector that plugs in to it. This setup allows the original factory connector to remain active along with the newly-installed 4-pole.
